Recreational Soccer Game Rules JBSC

U6 Rules

  1. Ball size 3
  2. Two teams 3-3, no goalkeepers
  3. Substitutions are unlimited at any stoppage of play
  4. Each player shall play a minimum of 50% of playing time
  5. Duration of the game shall be 4 x 6 minute quarters. 2 mins between quarters and a 5 minute half time.
  6. All free kicks are direct with opponents 4 yards from the ball. Same with kick offs.
  7. No throw-ins, but "kick ins" and are considered a free kick.
  8. No offsides.
  9. Coach explains all infringements briefly to offending player.
  10. No cards.
  11. No penalty kicks.
  12. Goal kicks taken within 2-3 yards of goal line, anywhere along the goal line.
  13. Corner kicks taken within 1 yard from corner and considered free kick.

There shall be no referee for U6 games. A Coach or parent will supervise the game for safety sake. "Do-overs" should be a regular occurrence allowed by the adult supervising the game. If coaches are supervising they should switch at the end of each quarter.

U8 Rules

  1. All games will be played with a size 3 ball.
  2. Two teams 4-4, no goalkeepers.
  3. Substitutions are unlimited at any stoppage of play.
  4. Each player shall play a minimum of 50% of game time.
  5. Duration of the game shall be 4 x 12 minute quarters. 2 mins between quarters and a 5 minute half time.
  6. All free kicks are direct with opponents 4 yards from the ball. Same with kick offs.
  7. No offsides.
  8. Referees explain infringement briefly to offending player.
  9. No cards. If player is misbehaving ref shall bring to attention of coach.
  10. No penalty kicks.
  11. Goal kicks taken within 2-3 yards of goal line, anywhere along the goal line.
  12. Corner kicks taken within 1 yard from corner and considered a free kick.
  13. No players allowed in the arc in front of the goal area. 

One Center Referee Grade 8 or higher will officiate U8 games.

U10 Rules

  1. All games will be played with a size 4 ball.
  2. Two teams 7 v 7 of which one shall be a goalkeeper.
  3. Substitutions are at the discretion of the referee at any stoppage of play. 
  4. Each player shall play a minimum of 50% of game time.
  5. Duration of the game shall be 2 x 25 minute halves with a 5 minute halftime. There will be a 2 minute water break at a neutral stoppage in play midway through each half. (Non-attacking throw-in, goal kick, kick off or injury)
  6. Free kicks, conform to FIFA with opponents 8 yards from the ball.
  7. Throw-ins, conform to FIFA.
  8. Fouls and misconducts conform to FIFA with the exception the goalkeeper cannot 'punt' the ball. 
  9. Cards may be issued by the referee, including issuing cards to coaches. Ref briefly explains infringement to offending player.
  10. Penalty kicks conform to FIFA. Penalty mark 8 yards from the midpoint of the goalposts.
  11. Goal kicks, conform to FIFA.
  12. Corner kicks, conform to FIFA with the exception opposing players 8 yards from the ball.

The game will be officiated by a center referee and two assistant referees, all officials must be a grade 8 or higher. If both coaches agree, club or parent linesmen may be used at the discretion of the referee. Linesmen only determine ball out of play, center ref signals direction of throw-in. 

U12 Rules

  1. Ball size 4.
  2. Two teams 9 v 9 of which one shall be a goalkeeper.
  3. Substitutions are unlimited at throw-ins, goal kicks, kick offs and for injury. 
  4. Duration of the game shall be 2 x 30 minute halves with a 5 minute half time. There will be a 2 minute water break at a neutral stoppage in play midway through each half. (Non-attacking throw-in, goal kick, kick off or injury)
  5. Free kicks, conform to FIFA with opponents 8 yards from the ball.
  6. Throw-ins, conform to FIFA, no retakes.
  7. Offsides, conform to FIFA.
  8. Fouls and misconducts, conform to FIFA.
  9. Cards may be issued by the referee, including issuing cards to coaches. Ref briefly explains infringement to offending player.
  10. Penalty kicks, conform to FIFA. Penalty mark 10 yards from the midpoint of the goalposts.
  11. Goal kicks, conform to FIFA.
  12. Corner kicks, conform to FIFA.

The game will be officiated by a center referee and two assistant referees, all officials must be a grade 8 or higher. The rule to not allow substitutions during last 5 minutes of the game (except for injury) is to eliminate unsporting excessive substitutions to time waste during close games. If officials are short a club/parent linesman can substitute with the agreement of both head coaches.

U14 Rules

  1. Ball size 5.
  2. Two teams 11 v 11 or as determined by the TCSL of which one shall be the goalkeeper.
  3. Substitutions are unlimited at own throw-in, goal kicks, kick offs and for injury. If team with possession substitutes at throw-in opposing team may also substitute. No substitutions during last 5 minutes of game except for injury.
  4. Duration of game shall be 2 x 35 minute halves with a 5 minute half time. There will be a 2 minute water break at a neutral stoppage in play midway through each half. (Non-attacking throw-in, goal kick, kick off or injury).
  5. Free kicks, conform to FIFA.
  6. Throw-ins, conform to FIFA.
  7. Offsides, conform to FIFA.
  8. Fouls and misconducts, conform to FIFA.
  9. Cards may be issued by the referee, including issuing cards to coaches. Ref briefly explains infringement to offending player.
  10. Penalty kicks, conform to FIFA.
  11. Goal kicks, conform to FIFA.

U16 Rules

  2. Two teams 11-11 or as determined seasonally by the TCSL, of which one shall be the goalkeeper.
  3. Substitutions are unlimited at own throw-in, goal kicks, kick offs and for injury. If team with possession substitutes at throw-in opposing team may also substitute. No substitutions during last 5 minutes of game except for injury.
  4. Duration of game shall be 2 x 40 minute halves with a 5 minute half time. There will be a 2 minute water break at a neutral stoppage in play midway through each half. (Non-attacking throw-in, goal kick, kick off or injury).
  5. Free kicks, conform to FIFA.
  6. Throw-ins, conform to FIFA.
  7. Offsides, conform to FIFA.
